The dealer advised the vehicle was not under recall and would not offer any assistance. The latest call resulted in escalation as I have requested replacement of the transmission as there is apparently a defect in the casting of the transmission or an internal issue. Craziest car buying experience I've ever had!!! They claimed that the truck appeared to have been driven through a body of salt water coincidentally on the transmission only. I replaced my with 134,000 on it, and it still had so life left. The throw out bearing is again vibrating on the pilot shaft. I trained myself to remember it and got 19. We will see with Taco.
They are a little different: 1st is a little low. By the time it did, I was watching in my mirror and an oncoming vehicle started hitting their brakes to avoid hitting me. As my research showed, they had not actually come down, and had just spoken to the dealership on the phone. I would also like to hear from some members that have a 2nd gen with high miles to see what they are getting before having to replace the clutch. After several trips from 48 hrs to 1 month intervals they lubed it numerous times.
Not certain bout the wiring harness have to ask but if you have the donor vehicle you can plug match the ecu's to see. This truck was a 4x4 off road, and came with all of the extra options that could be offered. After the second clutch the squeal came back within 3,000 miles. The truck included a 36,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty and a lifetime power train warranty. Within 24 hours the squeal was back.

At 1st it was just annoying, but recently I was turning a corner at a signal light behind another veh. Through carfax I found me to be the 5th owner. Ive owned 5 manual jeeps, and have driven bmw m5's and porsche's, and my 13 taco is the most finicky to drive. I am concerned that the transmission synchronizers are worn out and want to get problem resolved while covered under 60,000 mile drivetrain warranty. After having the vehicle in for a Toyota field tech to look at the replaced the clutch return spring.
Roaring has become worse, vibration was somewhat abated, but still there. Clutch started slipping during acceleration in 4th gear. A total waste of 3hrs and an insincere apology. Â¿ historically, Toyota has had many issues with corrosion and the immediate refusal for coverage shocked me. Because the present shifting sensation makes you feel like you are forcing or grinding gears when shifting from 1st to 2nd, this is a safety issue given I can tend to be more focused on the shifting from 1st to 2nd than on driving and it is uncertain whether the transmission will possibly fail while I am driving the truck. I purchased this truck oct. I was coming in from an hour away but was told they were possibly selling the car so I asked if they had sold it or not so I wouldn't drive that far for nothing. Dealer said this is normal and not a problem unless it happens in warm weather. I brought the truck in to be looked at by harr Toyota service department, where the transmission was immediately refused to be covered under warranty due to corrosion.
The Tacoma X-Runner sport truck is discontinued for 2014. I have owned at least 5 or 6 five-speed vehicles. Guy Plummer is a knowledgeable and honest sales rep, that treated my Wife and I with courtesy and respect. Nothing else has been done to try to fix this. Carrier bearing wasn't bad, but replaced anyway.
